url to a doc not resolving

i'm using the club website demo to prime a site. http://www.asp.net/downloads/starter-kits/club/
i created a folder in the 'solution explorer'  to hold hyperlink docs, called 'documents' and copied a bunch of files in there. but get a 404 when referencing the docs from there.
its just like a default folder the site has for images called 'images'


this does not work it gets the 404

this works

404 error msg
