I've noticed that many modern web site home pages (Web 2.0) appear to have clearly marked left and right margins when you maximize the web page. Here are a few examples:

My question is - what is the easiest way to implement this type of layout where the left and right margins are clearly defined? I would imagine that this type of layout would typically use css instead of tables. I'm not sure how it's done though. What are your thoughts on the best way to easily implement this type of layout?
