Grid View Paging Filter - Error paging

I have a gridview with textboxes above it for users to input text and search/filter the results returned to the gridview. If I search for something invalid like <Script></script>, then I receive an error when paging on the grid view. I did not know the paging hyperlinks (i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc) caused the page to validate.
Is there anyway to stop the grid view paging action from submitting the form information, aka the filter data?
