website or windows forms application - how do you run them ??

I am a beginner at asp.net at college - I have been given sample website applications .
I have compiled the application but on running it lists the directory of classes, stylesheets , asp pages etc etc .

How can I 'run' the website ??? .... sometimes default.aspx and master page .master is ot present !!!
