When I write the profile variable definitions in Web.config, what does that really do? Does it cause actual values to feed into the profile variables as soon as they are available in my application, or is writing them in Web.config just a way of defining the variables?

If this is just a way of defining the variables, then I would have to at some point in the processing set each variable that I defined equal to the value generated. If this is so, and, for example, I have a CreateUserWizard, I would conceivably pick up the values during the _CreatedUser event and set them equal to the profile variables that I had previously defined.

Otherwise, if the former case is true and the values are assigned to the profile variables automatically, this would be the ideal case. If not, I have to assign values to the profile variables on more than one page. Since the user will run the CreateUserWizard only once ...
