enable/disable editing a column in a grid based on user

i have a grid with say column 1, column 2 and column 3. when user A logs in, and wants to edit the grid, he should be able to edit column 1 only but for user B, he should be able to edit column 2 and column 3 only. so i want to be able to selectively enable which columns to be enabled for editing depending on user's access level. is that possible?
