Duplicate Applications being created

Hi, I'm a little confused with this one.  In my webconfig I have set my application name as such applicationName="\MyApp" but when I use the ASP.Net Configuration tool, it creates two applications, one with the name "\" and one with the name "\MyApp"  it also creates duplicate roles and users, one for each application.  Anyone seen this before?
