Hey guys, i'm am writing a custom membership provider and i am having some trouble understanding bits of it.
My questions:
When a user signs into the website their username is stored in System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name. Is this a cookie? and how long is the cookie alive for? does it get destroyed when the session ends?
Why is the username stored in this variable rather than the user's unique identifier from the database? When a user inserts a record into the database i just have to do another query (using the stored username) to get their ID (which i need to store with the record)
Is there any point in setting the providerUserKey when you return a membershipUser to the membershipProvider? ...
