What is the need to use Generic Collection instead of ArrayList?

Hi all,

I want to the difference between System.Collections.Generic.List<> and ArrayList.

Because in general both are working in the same array concept.

1. Why should I go for one instead of other?

2. How to justify that one is to be used in a particular situtation?
