Hi,
I have a MVC .NET 3.5 application that is using the SmtpClient to send email.  We have been receiving several 'System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The operation has timed out.' errors over the past few weeks.  From that we can tell the destination server is not accepting our initial connection and then the attempt times out.  I have a couple of questions around this scenario, one being do we need to manually code retry attempts, or should the SMTP server handle retires, and in regards to the second question if we do not need to code retry attempts do we need to make sure our message contains any specific information that tells the SMTP server to retry?  From several attempts we have noticed that if we sent mail directly from Outlook it does arrive successfully (maybe after a delay), but if it's generated from the application server and the sent for delivery it times out.
Thanks
