I have a text box with two validators on it - one RequiredFieldValidator and one RangeValidator.  Everything works fine - if the box is empty, the RFV does its job and if the box has data in it, the RV does its job.
Then I decided to add an Edit Mask to the text box so the user sees __/__/____ where they have to type the date.  Obviously I have had to tell the RFV what the initial value is, so that it treats the mask as empty.  So far, so good.
BUT the RV doesn't have a property to set the initial value - so it fails when the box just contains the empty mask.  The end result is that when the field is empty, both validators fail, and I don't want that.  I guess there are two possible solutions:
Find a way to tell the RV that it must treat __/__/____ as blank. Find a way to tell the RV to be quiet if the RFV has already detected that the box is empty.   Go to the complete details ...
