Ok,  I have searched a bunch and still am not sure what the best way to approach this is -
Here is what I have : A ajax tab container - I fill the tabs dynamically with tab panels for which I have to go to the db and get the headings and stuff.
Because I do this dynamically I added my funciton FillGridInPanelsto both page_load and page_init.
In page load I did  -> If not page is post back then FillGridInPanels.
In Page init I did -> if page is post back then FillGridInPanels
This worked great.  I tested this based on the assumption that the same item will be accessed from the db.
But now I want to change my tabs and the grid inside it based on a dropdown I added to the page.  The dropdown will have various items I can access from the db.  The whole access to the database is very slow as it runs huge stroed proc. I read about this a bunch and figured out I had to do this -
