Convert part of date to month notation

Hello,

I want to be able to convert part of a date (e.g. 20080627) to a text notation.  To be precise, i want to convert the month (06) to textual version of the month (june). Maybe there is a build in function to do this, i don't know. But also, i don't want to show june, but i want to show Juin (french), Juni (german) or Junio (spanish). An other language then english. How do i do this?
