Hyperlink to a MS Word Template (*.dot) doesn't open as 'New'

Hi

In my page I have a Hyperlink to a *.dot file. The link works. When it's pressed it asks if I wan't to 'Open', 'Save File' or 'Cancel'. When I press 'Open' it opens. My problem is, that if I save the template it saves the template as if I made changes to the template. It doesn't save as a new document as a template normally does.

In my explorer in windows it works fine when i open the file. 
I've noticed that when I right-click the file in the explorer there's a 'New' option and a 'Open' option. The 'New' option is bold which I suppose means that it's the default option when double-clicking the file.

Is it possible to configure the hyperlink to open the *.dot with the 'New' option? Or is there any way to configure IE to open the hyperlink with the 'New' option?
