Trying to dynamically add controls, may be using wrong approach

Dev Platform = Visual Studio 2008

Alright, I'm working on an event calendar of sorts and am trying to create a page that displays information about events for a particular date. Part of the information is the RSVP status for a particular event. What I'm trying to do is create buttons, links, or some other form of control that will edit a table in an SQL database that contains the RSVP information. Displaying the information isn't a problem, however dynamically adding controls that can trigger an event such as a button or a link is presenting a problem. My codefile is as follows:
