I'm developing a website in ASP.net (.NET 4) and SQL Server 2008.
For user authentication, I could use the Membership and the Role APIs. But it's a little bit different from what I want to do.
I've created others small websites and I handle all the users management with using the membership API. I just use a Data Access Layer that made all the CRUD stuff to database and it works fine. For the login, once the user is authenticated, a Session variable is set with information about that user and when the users logoff, the variable turns null.
Do you think that I can do my website (a bigger one) with this solution (DAL, BLL, Session etc etc) ou, for whatever reason I should use the Membership and Role APIs?? The main question is: the Membership/Role API is a widely used standard nowadays and MUST be used?
