I have a requirement to Authenticate and Authorize users of a server (intranet). All the users will have assigned Roles and departments and permissions to the documents. Depending upon the user role and their department, needs to show the document available in the filshare.
Is it OK to just access Active directory through the Asp.net application or do i need the SQL Membership provider and SQL Server database aspnetdb also used along with ActiveDirectory LDAP access. For now i can authenticate User in a test setup on Windows 2003 server using LDAP and Active Directory. What about roles and departments of the user, can they be assigned in the active directory or is it that we need to do from the Application configuration.
