Trying to modify remote database with asp.net configuration tool

Hi,

I am trying to use the asp.net configuration tool in VWD 2008 to change the roles/users on my site.  I can access my online database using this connection string:
1 <add name="onlineDATABASE" connectionString="Data Source=x;Initial Catalog=DATABASE2;User ID=x;Password=x"
2 providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

What I have done is enter this connection string into the membership provider tag in hopes that the configuration tool would hook up to the online membership tables in "onlineDATABASE" but this has not happened:  1 <membership defaultProvider="newProvider" userIsOnlineTimeWindow="20">
