Click event takes two clicks to fire

 Good afternoon, hopefully someone will be able to assist me in diagnosing an issue that I am having on a web form.  I have a webform that contains a usercontrol that is simply a grid.  This grid contains an empty data template that contains an linkbutton that opens a modal window for creating a new record.  If this linkbutton is the first button clicked on the page it works fine, the click event is immediately fired.  On subsequent postbacks this button must be clicked twice in order for the click event to fire.  I am sure this has something to do with the page lifecycle and the way that the controls are loaded on the page.  Any help would be apprceciated.
