How can i do real time for this?

hi guys
i'm doing something like a mail box where if there are new private message or mails,
the label will say "Inbox(1)" and so on... if everything have been read and nothing new then it'll say "Inbox'

how can i do it in real time or maybe with a timer to check every 30 seconds or 1 minute?
