Hi there.
I'm fairly new at AJAX and Webservices (and .NET in general for that matter) so please excuse my ignorance. I am researching best practices in order to implement an AJAX enabled web site using JQuery to make asynchronous calls to the backend.
As far as the backend goes, my understanding is that I have three options to implement this. Either using a standard .asmx Webservice, a generic Http handler or a WCF Service. The problem is I can't find any information on best practices. Does any implementation have significant advantages over the other?
As I understand all three are implemented as httphandlers
(assuming the WCF Service is running withaspNetCompatibilityEnabled). So in terms of performance, is there any difference between the
three? My understanding (again as a novice) is that the greatest performance hit depends on how far into the asp.net pipeline the request needs to go. So given that they are all basically http handlers shouldn& ...
