I've never written a web app (not even a web page!). I'm having diffivculty figuring out what the right approach is to an app I want to write.
Here's what I want to do:
I would like to take a file parser application that I've already written (VBA) and make its functionality available via a web page that allows the user to identify the input file on their local machine and specify the output file destination (also on their local machine). I plan on migrating it from VBA to C#. Ideally the parsing would happen on the local machine as well. This is due to the file size (~1GB) making it take longer to transfer the file than to parse it (40 minutes round trip with 5 minutes to parse).
The web page will be available on an internal corporate network, so I'm not overly concerned about security and which browser is being used (IE7 at the moment).
I had origianally been looking into using ASP.Net, but silverlight sounds like it might ...
