MasterPage Label value lost when content page changes

Hi
  I'm having problems keeping values of controls on my masterpage

 Here is the control on the MasterPage:

        <asp:Label ID="compLbl" runat="server" Style="z-index: 100; left: 68px; position: absolute;
            top: 44px" BorderStyle="Inset" Width="30px"></asp:Label>

Code behind for MasterPage:

Partial Class MasterPage
    Inherits System.Web.UI.MasterPage

    Public Property compID()
        Get
            Return compLbl.Text
        End Get
        Set(ByVal value)
            compLbl.Tex ...
