Last week I installed a MSDN subscription VS 2010 Pro on a new PC. It installed Sql Server 2008 Express as a part of the installation.
I had read that I should install Sql Server Management Studio for Sql Server 2008 Express to make development easier.
I mistakenly installed Management Studio for Sql Server 2008 R2 Express. The installation package then installed Sql Server 2008 R2 Express.
When I realized I had two different Sql Servers, I tried to remove (uninstall) Sql Server 2008 R2 Express. It says it uninstalled but its still there in Control Panel.
Then I installed SP1, 2, and 3 for Sql Server 2008 Express.
Now, anytime I try to connect to any instance of Sql Server (from VS 2010 or Management Studio), I get numerous error messages. It's a mess.
I hope I don't have to format C: and re-install ...
