i checked the asp.net ajax source code and found that asp.net ajax enabled .asmx service internally intercepts the returned xml-formated data and parses xml into json if specified. so basically it parses the returned .net objects into xml frist, which is totally unecessary if i just want json, then parses the xml into json. this approach can significantly drop the performance espcially when the returned data is large
just wonder if wcf does the same thing or just directly parses the returned .net objects into json without parsing it into xml in the first place?
