I have to develope a form which has a form number on it which is based on an auto-number in an Access database where the form details are to be stored.

I know how to query the database for the next number although this would not be very useful if 2 forms were being created at the same time by different users since they would have the same form number.

To get around this I was thinking of just writing a blank record into the database and then when the form is submitted just update the blank records although what if a user exits without saving anything? It would not be very memory efficient to have lots of blank records in the database with only an ID.

Does anyone know how to trigger an event when the form is exited if nothing has been saved to the database which would delete the record?

I hope that makes sense,
I am coding with visual studio.net

Cheers
