Reference Object in vb from aspx

Now I'm just drawing a blank.


Used to be that if I dropped and object onto an aspx page say a dropdownbox or a gridview, I used to be able to reference it from VWD 2008 in the VB code.


Actually, it used to auto suggest and the gridview or dropdownbox was listed.


Now, when I add a object to the aspx page, I get no reference to the object on the page.


What happened?
