WCF service discovery using Add Web Service

Hi,
I'm trying to test a simple hello world WCF service. Using svcutil.exe, the code runs fine and displays the passed parameter string 'Hello World' in the console. I then tried creating a proxy class using Add Reference option and pasting the url of the service. In my console client, it worked fine, no problems. Now, when I try to do the same and create a proxy class using 'Add WEB Reference' option, I could see the web method using the proxy object, but when I try to run and pass that same string, the console window is just blank, the service runs but nothing is displayed in the window. I then removed the proxy object and just displayed a simple Console.Writeline "Hello World" and it was displayed in the console. What's wrong with the proxy object when created using Add Web Reference option?
I read somewhere that I need to use basicHTTPBinding. Isn't this supposed to be created automatically in my app.config when I add the reference?
