Email on loggedIn event

 I am trying to email users when their account is accessed, just as a simple notice that their account was accessed.   When I try grabbing the email address on loggedIn event, the user is null because, I thought I read from somewhere,  the cookie is not yet set....???   Is this right?  I tried the code on page load event, which works, except I was using that particular page as the home page and an email was sent everytime the page loaded.  Should I make some kind of page that simply sends the email on load and then server.transfer to the home page?  Or is there another way of handling this?
