I compile race results that are published on several websites. What I have been doing to gather the data is using Excel to 'gather External Data from the WEB' This saves the tables into a file that I can edit and then Import to SQL server. However, some of the fields on the website are hyperlinks that are active but have a name for the link, so the URL is not visible. When pulled into Excel they are still active links, but if I try to import the data to SQL Server the link name is imported as plain text. I have two questions - first, I have heard that it is possible to read a web table directly into a dataset. Anyone know how that is done? And if it is possible, how do you get the url out of the hyperlink? If this is not a valid approach, does anyone know how to create a function in Excel that woulf extract the underlying URL fron a cell that is a hyperlink?
