BACKGROUND:
I have a GridView and DetailsView on the same page,  both working off a SQLDataSource that has inserting and updating enabled.
The DetailsView is used to insert data from two textboxes into the database, and the GridView brings up the data and allows editing / updating the data.
Both textboxes in the details view have Required Field Validators, and one of them has an additional Regular Expression Validator
PROBLEM:
Inserting data with the DetailsView (and associated validation) works fine.  But when I then try to edit one of the records in the GridView and click on Update, the process fails because the DetailsView validators seem to expect entries in its textboxes
How can I get around this?  As an approach I've been playing around trying to come up with some VB code to run in the GridView Selected Index Changed that would define the DetailsView validators as valid, but am uncertain if that is a goo ...
