Form based authentication with Roles

Hi
Could any one please provide suggestions for this. I am trying to implement forms based authentication with three roles(user,admin,super admin).
1. Is it ok to store role in database or is there any alternative for this.
2. Usually how is the role assigned to an account ie is it assigned at the time of creating an account or after creating the account.
I would really appreciate if you could  post links or articles about "Form based authentication with Roles"
