I'm seeking employment with a firm that is developing a project involving syncing a back-end SQL Server database with a mobile device. I presume the device can either retrieve the data from the back-end or submit what it has collected.
My strong point will be developing on the mobile device. Unfortunately, I'm not too strong in the ASP.NET arena. It has so many components that it's hard to know where to start with some concepts. So I'm trying to learn what I can, but I need some small direction:
* When you are using a mobile app to sync with a backend or download from it, does this require ASP.NET at all? Or would this just be a local application that has remote access to the database and performs its own database operations?
* Would there be any realistic applications that allow a mobile device to deposit a data file on to a backend that ASP.NET later parses to insert into its database?
