I'm trying to run a new site under IIS 7, on Server 2008.   There are public pages, and a directory that is protected by ASP.net membership.    When I run this site from the server, it works perfectly.   When I attempt to run it from another computer, it allows me to access the public pages, and properly presents the login page for the protected directory.   However, when I enter a valid username and password, it "thinks for a second", and then just returns to the login page.   No errors are presented.

I have both anonymous access and impersonation turned on.   I believe that the protected directory is properly being run by the anonymous user NT Authority\IUSR, since when I turned impersonation on, it required that I add that user to my security within the database.  I verified that the impersonated user (anonymous user) has read/write/modify access to the directories in question.
