Passing Server Control Value to an HTML form

I am relatively new to C# and hope that someone can give me some advice on how to pass a server control value to a HTML form.  In essence, I want to pass a the value in the "total" textbox asp.net server control (seen below)

<asp:TextBox ID="total" runat="server">

 Into a HTML form such as the one below 

<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="  ">

Is there an easy way to do this?  All your help would be sincerely appreciated.
