please help finding a reference to the scriptmanager from within a user control

I have an application that I am upgrading. It used to register some piece of javascript in the page load of a page.

But now I have reconstructed the page within a user control that is inside a updatepanel on a content page that has a scripmanagerproxy. I need to replace the page's clientscrip with the script manager but cant find a reference to it inside the page load of my user control
