Placing items on the webpage

I just finish my asp.net class and am building my first webpage. I have a calendar, a label, a database table and I want to put some other things on it. My problem is that when I try to put things like labels or textboxes beside items already on the page, like the calendar or the table, it keeps pushing my items to the next line below. This means I'll have a webpage 2 pages long with nothing pretty much on one side. I need to put things side-by-side, so I don't have so much empty space on my page. This is making me insane. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.
