Can I use DES with no IV?

Hi All,

I am creating a small project using DES and dont want to use the Initialisation Vector.  Is there any way I dont have to use this?  I have tried not setting one, and setting an empty byte array, however both throw exceptions.

It is a little strange I need to provide one.  Symmetric algorithms in their simplest forms should work with a single key!?

I understand what an IV is and why it should be used.
