putting html comments inside drop-down list definition

 Hi,
 Does anybody know a way to insert html comments in between drop-down list items? 
I would like to have the resulting HTML code look like this:
<select name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$lstOperations" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_lstOperations">
        <option value="op1">Option 1</option>
        <!-- comment -->
        <option value="op2">Option 2</option>
        <!-- another comment -->
        <option value="op3">Option 3</option>
    </select>
