Get selection from DropDownList and pass it to SQL query

Hi,

I need to have in my application a DropDownList which will hold several elements, and when the user selects it, modofy the text in a label so that the user knows the selection, and then pass the selected value as a database query in SQL. I have been trying this for a while and here's where I have ended up to. Any suggestions please?
