Custom Membership Provider - works with sqlexpress, but not with sql2000

Hi Everyone, I created a customer membership provider on my local machine that works fine (on my laptop, using Visual Studio Express 2008 and SqlExpress).  I recreated the same set up on my webserver, but the same application doesn't allow me to log in.  I don't get an error message, just "Your login attempt was not successful."

I thought that it might be the connection string, but I'm using the same connection string that other pages use to connect to my db (sql server 2000).  Does anyone have an idea of what I might be missing?
