strings

 
I figured out how to get a length of a string, but is there a way to grab a certain word?  For example, I have this string:
EnginePartsModel/EngineNode[@id = 'xxxx']  (part of an xpath)
And I need to get just the id.  Is there a way to grab the id and save it to a variable?
