How do I sort a date by the month and the day in a database.

Hey,

I am trying to create a database where you can organize the date such as:

February 9, 2009
April 9, 2009

When I put the new date April 9, 2009 into the calendar it shows it as.
April 9, 2009
February 9, 2009

I am using Visual Web Developer and the Mysql to create the database.
I have also followed the steps in this other post http://forums.asp.net/p/1305944/2560141.aspx#2560141, but all I get is a strange error message and I'm not sure how I create the database to sort by the months of the year.  I was wondering if someone can help me walk through this.
