Hi there,
i am currently developing a community in ASP.NET C# and SQL Server and i integrated an Instant Messenger function. Everything working well but my instant messenger works like this
DATABASE:
IM_Messages      ID   FromUser  ToUser  Message  MessageTime
If some user writes a message, i will do an INSERT INTO IM_MESSAGE
with AJAX Timer intervall to 5 seconds i always do a SELECT * FROM IM_Messages WHERE ToUser = @MyUserID
So user A is writing a Message, it will be stroed in database on server, user B (the messaging partner) can receive that message buy SQL SELECT
also User a is doing a sql select all the time.
it is working very well at all but i believe when integrated and many people use it it will do alot of server bandwith
i heard about RTMP Real-Time Message Protocol and Peer-2-Peer messengers.
anybody has got a solution how to architecture this in ASP.NET?
