How to add "Select" to databound DropDownList?

Working with a DropDownList that is bound to an ObjectDataSource.  In the past, when I wanted the default selection on the DropDownList to be something like "- Select -", I added "- Select -" as the first entry in the table bound to the ObjectDataSource, which sort of skews the table for reports and things.  Is there a better way of binding an ObjectDataSource to a DropDownList but still showing the default selection as something other than what should normally be in the table or is the only way to accomplish this to add such an entry to the table?
