src & href attributes - difference when used in ap.net pages

hello, see my href and src attributes referring to external resources -
<link href="<%= Request.ApplicationPath %>/supportfs/progress.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>   



<script src="<%= Request.ApplicationPath %>/CalendarControl.js" language="javascript" type="text/javascript"></script>

src attibute correctly replaced with my application path - seen from view->source

but href rendered as below

<link href="&lt;%= Request.ApplicationPath %>/supportfs/progress.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /><link href="CalendarControl.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
