Encrypting with SHA256

I tried the MSDN example

byte[] bytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("testdata");
SHA256 ShaM = new SHA256Managed();
byte[] result = ShaM.ComputeHash(bytes);

Is result the encrypted code in bytes? Is that it?

When I put the resulting bytes back to a string, testdata reads ???$*]?B ??jQ???g??(???c;P in Notepad. Is this correct?
