Cannot delete file if being used on web form

Hello there,
I have an image control on my web form and a button. When the button is clicked, it fires off a bit of code which attempts to delete the image file.
This only works if the image control isnt showing the image on the page. If it is then I get an error.
Is there anyway I can get around this?
