Passing querystring parameters to a hyperlink

I have a hyperlink which I want to forward the querystring parameters to the next page. How do I do this?
So far I have got:
NavigateUrl="~/ViewImage.aspx?sToolGUID={0}&lGrid={1},<%Request.Querystring("sToolGUID")%>,<%Request.Querystring("lGrid")%>"
This doesn't work but you can see what I'm trying to do.
Or do I use String.Format(".........")
If I was to use a linkbutton should I request the parameters then redirect to new page.
All this is very confusing - is there any instructions on passing parameters on any occasion?
