User needs to add items to a drop down list.

Hello,

I plan on saving a string of users input. The input represents items for a drop down list, and I'll just split the string and populate from an array. My thoughts are to use a multi line text box as part of the UI. Each line of the textbox would represent one item that gets packed into the string. I need to either add a special character (delimiter) at the end of each line before it's all packed together or catch the line break if one occurs (i'm not sure). Does anyone now how to loop through a textbox to find or add this??? If not, I'm all ears to a better solution.
